This November, New Yorkers will vote on the Equal Rights Amendment, known as Prop 1, which could become a groundbreaking model for protecting reproductive freedom and ending pregnancy discrimination. The National Institute for Reproductive Health Action Fund (NIRH AF) needs your help to spread the word about this important amendment.
Prop 1 will safeguard abortion rights, remove the government from decision-making at any point in pregnancy, AND protect pregnant people from being criminalized for pregnancy outcomes like miscarriage.
Why does this matter?
• If passed, this amendment could become a new national standard for states to protect reproductive freedom, LGBTQ rights, disability justice, and other communities and identities from experiencing state-sanctioned discrimination. Prop 1 will be the first state constitutional amendment to protect pregnant people under sex discrimination.
• It will prevent government interference in reproductive rights, ensuring everyone is free to make health care decisions throughout pregnancy.
• This amendment will combat discrimination across a range of identities, including gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, and more.
