When it comes to LGBTQ+ rights in former Soviet Union/Russian countries, they’re definitely not that far ahead, borrowing that trait straight from the former motherland (Poland being the most notable one; UzbekistanĀ still criminalizes homosexuality). Ukraine is probably the most ahead, because at least their president isn’t actively targeting the LGBTQ+ community (though during his campaign he had made promises to advance rights for them), and there’s a thriving LGBTQ+ community as well, with prides. But with the Russian invasion, make no mistake that the LGBTQ+ community will be targeted unapologetically.
