We came across this snippet that was developed for a rideshare platform in conjunction with the National Center for Transgender Equality (NCTE). The result was the development of the following definitions.
Gender identity: a person’s deeply-felt sense of being male, female, or something other or in-between, regardless of their sex assigned at birth.
Everyone has a gender identity.
Gender expression: a person’s characteristics & behaviors that help them outwardly describe their gender identity.
Everyone has a gender expression.
Pronouns: used to refer to someone in the third-person (e.g. she, he, they) and differ from person to person.
