While visiting the Bay Area last week, I of course bummed around in the Castro. Unfortunately, it was quite a sad experience. Some places that used to be around simply weren’t, and for those not taken over, they provided solace as an empty shell. The area didn’t quite feel as busy while I was over, and for the various bars I hopped over to, drinks were a little pricey. Wrong day, perhaps. But to top off my disappointment of the night, Harvey’s Bar & Restaurant, a longtime staple of the Castro that has been around for 25 years, has been closed since January, 2023. I really hope that The Castro can have something good comes it way; if not the reopening of Harvey’s.
