OnePlus’s iconic alert slider is officially being retired; any new phone releases from OnePlus will not feature the physical slider anymore. It’s been a brand feature since the OnePlus 2, and something that OnePlus users actually used, unlike Apple users that seemed to never have utilized the “mute slider” that were present since the original iPhone and removed with the iPhone 15 Pro. The alert slider usefully switched between silent, vibrate and ring mode without having to fumble with software toggles or unlocking the phone to switch states. Sadly, just like with what Apple did, OnePlus will replace the slider with a new multifunction button. However, it’s unknown how OnePlus plans on implementing this new features, and if it’d be a worthy successor. Let’s hope OnePlus knows what it is doing.
