Sad news: The OnePlus Open 2 won’t happen in 2025

The OnePlus Open 2, which would essentially be a rebranded Oppo Find N5 for North America, is not happening. This sad news was officially confirmed by OnePlus just a few days ago. They haven’t stated that they’re leaving behind foldables, but rather, will do it another time, perhaps in 2026. Had it arrived, it would’ve been the thinnest Foldable to rock the American markets. It’s hard to speculate on specifically why they’re holding of, but I have a few thoughts myself. The OnePlus Open 2 simply wouldn’t have been much different from the first. With foldables being very expensive phones, it might be better for OnePlus to have a significant upgrade for its next foldable launch while working to continually improve the software of its current Open.

The OnePlus Open passed a brutal sand test, but who knows what damage these sand particles will cause later down the road?

The OnePlus Open 2, if it were to come out this year, would pretty much only have increased water resistance as its significant upgrade in terms of durability. However, none of OPPO’s Foldables, including its newest one, has dust resistance. Dust resistance is pretty important, as dust particles can enter the interior of the phone and potentially wreak havoc. I am so worried about dust entering my current OnePlus Open that I avoid putting it in linty pockets and have a microfiber cloth always on hand to dust off the hinge before unfolding.
