San Diego Pride this weekend!

June has come and gone, so is our “official pride month” season, but don’t worry…there are still some great pride celebrations still to come. Case in point: Sand Diego Pride is looming loud and proud this coming weekend! If you haven’t had a chance to take in some of the festivities yet, or maybe you just haven’t gotten enough, this is a great opportunity.

Personally, I am a veteran of northern California prides in San Francisco and Oakland. San Francisco was my first official major pride and it just turned in to a tradition with friends over the years. This year I wanted to do something different, and since I am a California native, I decided to put San Diego Pride in my cross hairs this summer. San Diego Pride 2019 is set for July 11, 12, and 13th. The weather is much milder and there is a slew of great attractions and things to do if you want to extend your stay and make a bona fide vacay trip out a longer weekend.

Here is some copy from their official website:

Formed in 1974 as a sponsored program of The Center for Social Services, we produced the first Lesbian and Gay Parade in San Diego to celebrate the 1969 Stonewall Rebellion on New York’s Christopher Street. San Diego Pride incorporated as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in 1994, and today it continues to bring together the skills, talents, and visions of our diverse community through numerous programs.

San Diego Pride raises funds primarily through festival ticket and beverage sales, and through sponsorships, and exhibitor fees. These funds support San Diego Pride’s community philanthropy which has distributed more than $2.5 million in advancement of its mission to foster pride, equality, and respect for all lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender communities locally, nationally, and globally.

I have been to San Diego many times for fun and work with family and friends but I have never taken in their local pride parade and festival. I’m very excited this year and I can’t take in all the sites and sounds. Of course I’ll post a blog next week and my plan is to throw down with a photo gallery of the day.
