A Lynchburg Lemonade is a simple cocktail: Jack Daniel’s with lemonade. It is one of the most refreshing cocktails you can enjoy on a hot summer’s day, but I find it to be a great thirst quencer and a great way to sooth your palate with the sophistication of whiskey and citrus (lemonade). The name refers to Jack Daniel’s origins in Lynchburg, Tennessee, and was coined by someone named Mason in 1980, who allegedly made the cocktail as a remedy for a sore throat (that figures). Of course, Lynchburg Lemonade can have a plethora of variations: Any good whiskey, such as Jim Bean Black Label, Maker’s Mark, or the very mellow Glinlivet 12 paired with something citrusy, such as 7-up, lemonade, grapefruit soda (Squirt) and so on. Or you could stick with the classics and make it the Jack Daniel’s way (below). Jack Daniel’s also makes a malted beverage version of Lynchburg lemonade too!
